Hemodialysis Catheter

A way to get hemodialysis though a tube

Español

What happens after my procedure?

Often people are allowed to go back to their room or home after the procedure.

  • Keep the site and dressing dry and clean. Do not remove the clear plastic covering over where the tube enters the skin.

  • Keep the dressing dry when you shower.

  • If your dressing gets soiled or wet, a healthcare professional should replace it. Alternatively, you can change the dressing if you were taught how to do it and have the supplies.

  • Do not remove the caps on the end of the tubes.

  • You will be given instructions about how often you need dialysis, when, and where to go.

When should I call my clinician or 911?
