Paracentesis

A minimally invasive procedure to drain belly fluid

Español

What happens after my procedure?

You can go home after this procedure if you do not have other reasons to stay in the hospital. You can remove the bandage the next day.  Do not soak in a bath or tub until the wound has healed.

If your clinician sends the fluid to the lab, it may take a few days for the results to come back.

The fluid may build up again, and you may need another paracentesis.

When to call your clinician or 911?
