What happens after my procedure?

Your nurse will teach you how to care for your PICC.

  • The PICC needs to be flushed using proper technique every 8 hours and after every use.

  • Make sure to keep clean caps on the hubs when not using the PICC.

  • Keep the site and dressing dry and clean.

  • You may use a plastic sleeve to keep it dry while showering.

  • Do not swim or soak the PICC in a bath.

  • The dressings have to be changed once a week by a trained person.

  • PICCs must be removed or replaced every couple of months.
