What happens after my breast biopsy?
If your clinician places a marker clip, you may have a gentle mammogram. You will not feel the clip. Your clip will not set off metal detectors.
You will be allowed to go home after your biopsy. Unless your clinician tells you otherwise, you can drive yourself.
Wear a sports bra or tight fitting bra to minimize bruising. Alternatively, you can hold pressure on the biopsy site for an hour afterwards.
You may notice tenderness for a few days. You will be given an ice pack to help with discomfort. Put it in the freezer when it warms then use it again.
You can also use Tylenol, if needed. Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen until after the day of the biopsy.
You may notice bruising. This should improve over 1-2 weeks.
You can resume gentle activities on the day of the biopsy. You can return to all of your normal activities on the next day.
You can remove the bandage the next day.
